Will bioprinting be the next dramatic leap in modern medicine? Researchers at Stanford University—with the vision to one day be able to create any human organ, cell by cell—are working toward bioprinting a human heart and implanting it into a pig within the next 5 years. The project, funded by a federal contract, would represent a culmination of stem cell science, and involves experts in engineering, computer modeling, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, biology, materials science, and more.
