Thanks to a $1 billion donation to Albert Einstein College of Medicine, tuition will be free for all medical students of the school going forward. Notably, the institution is located in the Bronx, which is New York City’s poorest borough and ranks as the unhealthiest county in the state of New York. The donor, Ruth Gottesman—a former Einstein professor—wanted to enable new doctors to start their careers without medical student debt and help the school expand its student body to include talented individuals who otherwise couldn’t afford to attend medical school.
