Motorsports associations require on-staff physicians to promote safety and to evaluate and treat high-velocity crash injuries, as well as to provide medical care to the drivers, their families, and any spectators who need care during an event. IndyCar has named Julia Vaizer as its next medical director; in addition to being the first person to have completed Indiana University’s fellowship in motorsports medicine, Dr. Vaizer will be the first woman to hold this post, where she will serve both IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
